Richard Foster is one of the leading contemporary writers and speakers on Christian spirituality. Among his books that have inspired and encouraged many are Celebration of Discipline, which has sold more than a million copies, and Prayer: Finding the Heart’s True Home, which explores 21 different types of prayer for Christians. Richard Foster has a gift for expressing deep spiritual truths in down-to-earth language.
In his small devotional book, Prayers from the Heart, Richard Foster wrote this prayer:
I see people, Lord, but they’re all a blur of activity . . . a little like trees walking about. Go here! Go there! Do this! Do that! It’s like we’re all in a frantic scramble of climb and push and shove.
I’d really like to know each person as a unique individual, Lord, not just as a consumer or a competitor. But how? Too many people enter my day for me to pay attention to them all.
If I cannot truly “see” everyone, Lord, may I at least see someone. Help me to see that solitary individual . . . Amen.
As you pray during this month for World Christian Broadcasting, would you follow Richard Foster’s leading and focus on individuals?
- Pray for individual listeners—whether in China or Russia or anywhere our signal reaches—that they will have open minds and receptive hearts.
- Pray for our writers and speakers—that they will be open to the leading of the Spirit as they collect their thoughts and choose just the right words to impact the most people.
- Pray for our chief engineer, Kevin Chambers, and his crew as they build the new station in the Indian Ocean.
- Pray for all the individuals who are even now developing programming for the new station.
- Pray for world leaders that they will make policies favorable to the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
