CHINESE What's Going On

What a surprise a few months ago when I typed the Chinese for “Christian view of death” (Jidutu siwang guan) into a Chinese search engine on the Internet and found one of my own articles among the listings!  Since that time, occasionally I type that phrase and other words and phrases into Chinese search engines just to see whether the search engine will find articles on our Chinese website www.smzg.org. On a single day in April I typed several phrases into various Chinese search engines and got these results:

Yong aixin shuo shihua (speak truth in love):  Salina Ho’s article was the first item on Yahoo/China and first on Baidu!

Yongheng de panwang (eternal hope):  Dr. Bian’s article was the first item on Google

Ruhe chengwei Jidutu (how to become a Christian):  Ed Ho’s Bible study was the second item on Yahoo/China

Wei hunyin daogao (pray for your marriage):  My prayer was the third item on Baidu

Daogaoci (prayers):  My prayer series was the second item on Baidu.

I suppose that every culture has special art forms, some visual and some oral.  There is an unusual type of storytelling—an art form—in China known as ping shu which Chinese have enjoyed for centuries.  A man who goes by the English name David studied at Abilene Christian University over fifteen years ago; David is a professional Chinese story teller.  While at ACU, David wrote and recorded the life of Jesus for World Christian Broadcasting in this special ping shu format.  Last year he wrote and recorded the life of King David, and soon he will revise and enlarge the series on the life of Jesus.  These segments add a special characteristic to the Chinese broadcasts on KNLS and help to set us apart from other radio stations.
